Wordpress is great. We use it and one of the many free plug-ins allows us to do automatic posting every six hours without any human input.

I personally think it is fine if you don’t plug WordPress on the front page – it is a tool and it is not what you are trying to convey (that is, it is not primarily an advertisement of WordPress’ abilities or any such). The mention in the About page is cool

It’s mentioned on the about page. It was developed by Daniel Westermann-Clark, who is a wp-hackers subscriber (and the one who fixed that darn annoying bug where Pingbacks send the non-fancy URI).

Thanks for noticing. We’ve been very happy with the response we’ve received so far.

“About this Site” has a very brief description of WordPress and a link to the site. Do you think this is appropriate given the site’s audience is broad and likely not concerned about the tools used to generate the site?

We hope that more universities start to move toward open technologies like WordPress.

No, there's no WP mention on the front page, but it's all over the "About" page. Good enough, I'd say. *Ahem* I believe I read about the Gators going WordPressing a month ago.
