		<description>True, the spam won't appear, but it'd still be there clogging up the database since most spambots hit wp-comments-post direct. 

If you don't have comments switched on, I fail to see any point in leaving the PHP files up for spammers. If you change your mind, how long would it take you to re-upload them? Not as long as it'd take to clear out the spam ;)</description>

		<description>I don't see how your entries could get spammed if you turned comments off by default for all entries. I can see how it can be nice to have fewer files to clutter your directory, though, and it might make sense to delete files you don't use, but really, a few more files does not make for a much better experience, does it?</description>

		<description>Utility and ease of use? Simple. I have fewer files cluttering up my root directory, hence it is easier to find stuff. Nobody has ever complained that my personal blog offers only one syndication feed rather than the default four. 

(Also, if I switched comments off through admin but left the comments files up, I could still get spammed; which rather negates the point of switching off comments in the first place.)</description>
