Design for Money

WordPress template needed

I saw the above ad, the running bid being $20 for the task. The guy provides the design, for reference.

What’s funny is the following in the conditions for the job :

3) All deliverables will be considered “work made for hire” under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder’s Seller Legal Agreement).

Let me not get started with my questions about whether that is legal, given WordPress is GPL’ed and all that. :)

The last time I had been to rent-a-coder, I found out how – what technologically challenged spammers resort to.

For those of you who want a designer or coder to work on your WordPress, or even MovableType weblog, may I suggest BlogBarter. I am one of the experts on the board over there, but I haven’t done anything for anyone over there, yet. Most of the requests there are for MovableType related jobs. If you know of any other such forums, please let us know by leaving a comment.

  1. I posted that to see what kinds of responses I would get. If I get someone who thinks they can actually do it then ill up the cost.

Regarding the 3rd party templates. Thats just something rentacoder puts in there.

Im actually thinking of trying to do it myself using plugins etc., but I dont know if I will have the time as college starts for me in a few days.

  2. I think that GPL doesn’t apply to stuff which is the product of the software. If you use Gimp, you would’nt expect that all you produced there should be GPL?

I think the same applies to the blog-content, what you write is yours as long as you don’t give it away or work under work-for-hire contract.

And, if the template for the site is made from scratch, only using the template functions, then WP would probably be considered a library/program which do some stuff for you.

So, there you have it from my position, which might be wrong, of course.
