What I found most interesting, having migrated from a two-year affair with MT 2.X this past April, is that NOW, only in the MT3 releases, are they "copycatting" WP and using the UL/LI structure for sidebar links. Hmm. Wonder where they got THAT idea?! ;-)

I employ WP, MT and TxP on different sites. I'd hate to see weblog discussion devolve into the Apple vs. MS silliness.

I think once a brand sets out to *catch up* they are in trouble. It scarcely makes any difference whether they achieve it or not.

I think WordPress still lacks a bit of maturity in a couple minor areas (the XML-RPC interface is still a little buggy); but the overall concept behind it, the fact that it was designed from the ground up as a dynamic CMS, makes it much more suitable for smaller blogs than MT.

That and the backend is all clean and spiffy looking.

MT plays catch-up
I've been debating about switching to MT, but I've changed my mind somewhat. It seems it isn't as great as I was first lead to believe - 3.1 is SixApart's latest 'catch-up-with-wordpress' edition.

I sometimes think, the maturity of MT is sometimes better, especially Trackback is much more stable at MT in my experience. But WP is catching on, and the features added grow faster, in my opinion. And the license is better, of course

What's new in MovableType 3.1?
MovableType would probably have lost a few clients when it went commercial to WordPress… but it didn’t mean that they weren’t coming back with a more powerful CMS. With due respect to Wordpress junkies and its semantic code hype&#8230...

I'd say the most important argument for WordPress is the fact that it's free. Not only free in the sense of free beer but free in the sense of freedom. This is IMO by far the most important argument for software nowadays. Your mileage may vary.
